Texas Governor designates Western Swing the official music of Texas

Western Swing became the official state music of Texas on June 17, 2011, when Governor Rick Perry signed Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 35. The resolution highlighted the origins of Western Swing in Texas, particularly its roots in the small-town dance halls and the contributions of influential artists like Milton Brown and Bob Wills1. The music's ability to get people dancing and its significance in Texas's cultural heritage were key reasons for its designation.

It's a fitting tribute to a genre that has played such a vital role in the state's musical history.

And there is only one Church of Western Swing. It’s in Turkey, Texas, the home of Bob Wills. It’s owned by Tommy who purchased it to renovate and equip it to be a modern recording and dance hall venue where Western Swing musicians can perform and record.
